William "Bill" Francis Koney
A memorial service was held for William "Bill" Francis Koney, 71, on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father David Cooney and Father Jim Bretl officiated.
He died on Monday, June 8, 2009 at his home.
A resident of Smithville, and formerly of Westlake, Ohio, Mr. Koney was a purchasing agent for Summers Rubber Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran, delivered meals to the elderly and was a member of the Silver Sneakers Seniors Group and the St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Formerly St. Ladislas in Westlake, Ohio, he started St. Vincent Delaware Paul Society and Men's Group, Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Anne Thoman.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Koney of Smithville; children, Edward Broderick, James (Laura) Koney - Jessica, Jared, Scott, and Kristine Koney, Renee (Robert) Bourne and Rochelle Turner of Smithville; brothers, Gilbert (Anita) Koney and Dennis (Judy) Koney; and by many nieces and nephews.
DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville was in charge of the arrangements.
Edward Kirby
Funeral services were held for Edward Kirby, 82, on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville. Brother Virgil Hibdon, Jr. officiated, with interment in the DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
He died on Tuesday, June 6, 2009 at the River Park Hospital in McMinnville.
A resident of McMinnville, Mr. Kirby was a retired U.S. Postal truck driver and was a member of the New Town The Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Savage and Nancy Luna Kirby; a sister, Ruetta Close; and by two brothers, Virgil Lee Kirby and Clyde Kirby.
He is survived by his wife, Joycie Kirby of McMinnville; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Debbie Kirby of Ooltewah; a daughter, Donna Kirby of McMinnville; and by four grandchildren, Andrea Pierce and Ava Costello, both of Cleveland, and Curt Templeton and Amanda and Kenny Sheppard, all of McMinnville.
He is also survived by two sisters, Jo Puckett of Smithville and Dell Reynolds of Hermitage.
Pallbearers were Kenny Sheppard, Richard Close, Phillip Close, Lynn Murphy, Darrell Kirby, and Eddie Reynolds.

Rubye Francis Moss
Funeral services were held for Rubye Francis Moss, 84, on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville. Brother Virgil Hibdon, Jr. officiated, with interment in the DeKalb Memorial Gardens.
She died on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the DeKalb Community Hospital.
A resident of Smithville, Mrs. Moss was a retired bookkeeper and was affiliated with the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Taylor Moss; her parents, Albert and Eunice Matilda Beckwith Johnson; and by three sisters and three brothers, Mildred Ervin, Nannie Pack, Effie May Johnson, and Glenn, Truett, and Lester Johnson.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Deborah Moss of Oregon; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Edward Slawinski of Michigan; three grandchildren, Erin Moss of Oregon, Jennifer and Mark Snyder of Ohio, and Alex Slawinski of Michigan; and by one great grandchild, Samantha Synder of Ohio.
Pallbearers were Lewis Cantrell, Clyde Medley, Ed Slawinski, Mark Snyder, Mike Gonzalez, and Jerry Brown.

Jessie Lee Banks Melton
Funeral services were held for Jessie Lee Banks Melton, 87, on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville. Reverend Royce Moore officiated, with interment in the Braswell Cemetery.
She died in Monday, June 8, 2009 in Beloit, Wisconsin.
A resident of Beloit, and formerly of Smithville, Ms. Melton was a machinist in Detroit, Michigan, and owned and operated Mae's Restaurant in Smithville. After moving to Beloit, she was a caterer, a waitress at Dixie Cream Doughnuts, worked in retail, and was the owner of a painting and cleaning business until retirement. She was active in politics, the Girl Scouts, and was a volunteer to the Beloit Health Department and the school system.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Elmer; her parents, Robert and Cleo Redmon Banks; and by six brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Gloria Melton of Beloit; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nina and Randy Rosenbalm of Byron, Illinois, and Ila and Tom Mooney of Tomahawk, Wisconsin; and by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She is also survived by a sister, Rose Adcock of Smithville; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers were Eddie Dean and Eddie David Adcock, Jerry Palmer, Kenneth Pinegar, Wayne Hill, Trent Whitman, Timothy Banks, and James Young.
