Reminisces ... Gaynelle Willoughby

Gaynelle (Brown) Willoughby was born in 1920 on Hickman Creek in Smith County, TN, just three miles from Alexandria. As a young woman she married Henry Ralph Willoughby and had two children, Mac and Nelda. She started working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1968 and retired as the Alexandria Postmaster in 1988. Her father was Charlie Brown and her mother was Mary (Malone) Brown. She had two older brothers, Frank and Walter ... More

Reminisces ... Wiley James Snow

Wiley James Snow was born on January 23, 1923 in a little house near New Home on Short Mountain Road in the Pirtle place. His parents were Robert Lee and Virgie Mangrum Snow and he had five sisters - Frances, JoAnn, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Mary - and three brothers - Howard, Robert and Edgar. "I was the fifth child, right in the middle," Mr. Snow explained. Mr. Snow says that his ancestors can be traced back to the Mayflower and explains his connection to the famous ship ... More

Reminisces ... Charles Clifton Robinson

Charles Clifton Robinson was born May 20, 1922 in the Coconut Ridge community. His parents were Clifton and Ethel Robinson and he had three brothers and six sisters. Like most DeKalb Countians Mr. Robinson’s family were farmers which used horses to work the land. “My dad was a farmer and we raised corn to feed back to the horse. We usually had about three teams and worked them to the wagons and used them to pull sleds to work the corn with." ... More
